I spent a lot of time tonight messing with some drum sounds for a friend's album. I found some settings that I was really into, and thought I'd share for all of the recording nerds out there. First of all, here are the mics:
Kick: sE Titan
Snare Top: sm57
Snare Bottom: cheap audio technica pencil mic
(No tom mics for this sound)
Overheads: TLM 103's
All mics DIRECT into the RME interface.
No EQ or effects on individual channels- completely DRY. All drum channels were run through a group channel with the following effects:
Mutiband Compression
SSL Channel Strip
And some reverb.
Here's a little clip of the beat I was playing:
The reason I don't do a lot with outboard gear, is because I'm usually recording by myself and I have to run back and forth between the drum room and the control room. There's not an easy way for me to adjust outboard gear and play at the same time, so I keep everything really simple and clean going into the computer.
This has always been one of my favorite ways to record drums; dry individual channels- processing on the group channel. If you like these sounds, feel free to click the pictures so you can see my settings and use them on your own. Thanks for reading.
Jeremy

This sounds a lot like Darren's drumming. Is it Darren?

Jeremy, a sweet little drumbeat!
I know nothing of recording and all that, but I've just started using GarageBand to post youtube drum covers and it's piqued my interest. My dad uses Logic and ProTools so I'm definitely going to look further into that.
