(Post from last year's tour)
First of all, I have to stop blogging when I'm half awake. I accidentally tweeted a link to my blog that said "Tribute to Robert E. Lee" instead of Robert E. Smith... Umm... oops. I'm actually not really a huge fan of Robert E. Lee, so my apologies to anyone who came here hoping for some good old "Southern" nostalgia.
Ok, now to the point of this post. Don't you love oblivious people- people that always say the wrong thing, and have no idea what they said, and who it might offend? I've been collecting "compliments" from these people, and writing them down. Most of these people mean well, and were trying to pay me a compliment, but it just didn't come out that way. So here are a few good ones from last tour:
1. Guy approaches merch table and looks at CD's. Then he buys one and starts to walk away, I say thank you, but then turns around and says:
"Don't worry about it man. I used to be in a band, I know what it's like when no one wants to buy your stuff"
2. Girl approaches merch table and says (in a very loud voice)
"Hey!!!! Don't think I'm a stalker or anything, but I've ACTUALLY heard of you! But just because of your girlfriend. No one else here knows who you are, but I do!!!"
3. "Hey man, it's so good to meet you. I'm a huge fan of your old stuff; but your new stuff... not so much."
4. (This one is censored to hide the guys identity)
"Duuuuuuude, I can't believe it, several years ago I was exactly where you were opening up for Sleeping At Last. Now look at me! I'm on f*ckin' Atlantic playing the f*ckin' Kimmel Show!!! (then he proceeds to walk back to the sound board and plug in his iPod to play his band over the speakers. that's true.)
5. "I always wondered what ever happened to you. I didn't think you were still doing music..."
Thanks for reading.

I think you just scared off anyone who has any desire to make music and play shows. "Maybe I'll just go into accounting instead."

Hahahaha. That's terrible. I really enjoyed this.
Do know that you are a very valued musician. It's cool you can laugh at stuff like this.

how could I not laugh at this post. I unfortunatly am someone who forgets to think before speaking and only afterwards realizes that I was inappropriate. Sorry on behalf of us all out there.

Jeremy, who's the dude who made the fourth comment? I really want to know. I even went to the Atlantic website looking at their signings to try and figure out who it was.

Awesome post! That just happened to me the other day when I went for a coffee with my two girlfriends I hadn't seen in quite a while. One of them is single and she was just telling us about her latest boy-adventure and the parties she's been going to. When it was my turn my comment was something like: "Well I haven't done much lately and I'm with my boyfriend since three years, so not too much exciting news from my side." And then she went: "Oh you know, sometimes I wish I had a boring life too."
Thanks!
